Surprise twist in Parramatta star's club switch

The Warriors are trying to entice 2023 signings Marata Niukore and Luke Metcalf to join the club a year early next season.

The Kiwi club announced the signing of the pair recently - but as things stand Niukore will remain at Parramatta next season and Metcalf with the Sharks.

But the Warriors are desperate to entice the pair for 2022 and are working behind the scenes to make that happen.

The club has plenty of room in the salary cap to accommodate the pair next season and would stand a much better chance of making the finals with both on board.

They would need to come to some kind of agreement with their current clubs however - either financial compensation or a player swap.

Marata Niukore has signed a four-year deal with the Warriors from 2023.

Niukore was a force for the Eels this season, starring in the forwards with his aggressive running.

Metcalf is still a rookie but showed enough in a handful of top grade appearances to indicate he will be a quality playmaker in years to come.

The Warriors have been relatively quiet in the market for next season, with prodigal son Shaun Johnson and the Storm's Aaron Pene their only 'name' signings to date.
