'Take a suck of that!': Brady holes out with stunning shot

NFL star Tom Brady is used to coming up with big plays in clutch moments when throwing a pigskin.

When it comes to golf he's a little more out of his comfort zone, but the six-time Super Bowl champion still came up with the shot of the day in 'The Match'.

The charity exhibition team match-play event raising at least $US20 million for COVID-19 relief, saw Brady team up with Phil Mickelson to take on Tiger Woods and retired NFL quarterback, Peyton Manning. All four were mic'd up for the TV broadcast and live donations were taken throughout the round as part of the exhibition.

Manning and Brady are avid golfers as well as football rivals, but for much of the front nine it was Manning who was showing better form with a club in hand.

Brady meanwhile was in horrendous form earlier. He had found himself in the trees, on the cart track and in the water hazard in rainy conditions at the Medalist Golf Club in Florida.

Brady's NFL opponents, critics and golf fans were greatly enjoying seeing the man sometimes called the 'G.O.A.T' struggle around the golf course.

The former New England Patriot and new Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback's less than impressive play even drew some cheeky banter from guest commentator, NBA legend Charles Barkley.

And PGA Tour player and four-time major winner Brooks Koepka offered to donate $US100,000 if Brady just made a par on any hole on the front nine.

"Hey Tom, how many shots you want? I'm gonna give you some shots man. I want some of you," Barkley teased Brady over commentary.

"It'll turn on, don't worry ain't over yet," Brady quipped back.

Then on the seventh hole par-5, with Woods and Manning 3-up in the match, Brady did the unthinkable.

"I think you just made him mad, Chuck," golf commentator Trevor Immelman told Barkley moments before Brady took his next shot.

With his fourth shot from the fairway, about 150 yards out, Brady unbelievably holed out, hitting a perfect approach that saw the ball side-spin back into the cup.

"Oh you made it! Woo!" Mickelson yelled excitedly from across the fairway.

"Take a suck at that, Chuck," Brady told the NBA legend over the live broadcast.

Barkley and the other commentators were in hysterics as Brady smugly grinned and sat back in his cart.

"Hey man, I got nothing on you you," Barkley said giggling.

"Chuck, shut your mouth Chuck. Take a little of that medicine. That's what I needed," Brady replied.

"Way to get a $US100,000 from Brooks Koepka," Barkley added.

"Hey can i say a thing please? I haven't had a good shot in eight holes," Brady said as he drove his cart to the green to retrieve his ball.

"My wife, my kids, I love you. I hope you're watching. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going, boys."

Brady got the last laugh over Barkley, however as he triumphantly picked his ball out of the cup, he unfortunately had an awkward wardrobe malfunction, with his pants appearing to split.

Brady and Mickelson had an inspired comeback in the match to get Woods and Manning back to just 1-up with one hole to play, but the pair were unable to win the 18th and force extra holes.

Woods simply two-putted to close out the match and give his team victory.

"My man [Brady] hit some really good shots on his back nine. We fought hard," Mickelson said after 'The Match'.

"I was a little nervous, a little tight on the front nine. We made a run and came really close."

"Phil said he was nervous, imagine how I felt!," Manning added.

"To go behind the ropes in these guys' world and be in the arena with them, it was really a special experience.

"Knowing that $US20 million was raised and helping people that are really going through tough times, it was an honour for Tom and I to be invited by Tiger and Phil to play in the match."
