AFL unveils fixtures up to Round 5

Football’s return has been mapped out further this afternoon, with the AFL today revealing the full fixtures for Rounds 3, 4 and 5 of the restarted competition.

Round 2 was leaked overnight by several Melbourne newspapers before being officially confirmed this morning. It will see big clubs Collingwood and Richmond get the season back underway with a blockbluster clash at the MCG, while Hawthorn will make their first trip to Kardinia Park since 2006 on the Friday night when tackle Geelong.

Both WA clubs begin their stints in Queensland with clashes against the locals, with the Lions hosting Fremantle at the Gabba on Saturday afternoon and the Suns hosting the Eagles at Metricon later that night.

A last-minute easing of regulations by the South Australian government means the Power and Crows will play a Showdown at Adelaide Oval before heading up to Queensland as well.

Other Round 2 matches include Carlton hosting Melbourne at Marvel Stadium on Saturday, before Sundays sees Sydney host Essendon at the SCG, GWS tackle North Melbourne and St Kilda play the Western Bulldogs.

Interestingly, Sunday timeslots have been changed for this four-week blocks, with the match times for that day now 1:05pm, 3:35pm and 6:05pm.

The season was paused following Round 1 in late March due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Crowds will not be permitted at matches until further notice.

The AFL said the next block of fixtures – likely to be Round 6 and 7 – will be released at the conclusion of Round 3.
