“He Ain’t Never Gonna Try And Fight Me”- Colby Covington Trashes Dustin Poirier

American Top Team teammates Colby Covington and Dustin Poirier have had a very rough relationship. And they never shy away from expressing their thoughts about each other publicly. The former recently opened up about the same in an interview with Ariel Helwani.

While in training they share a sense of professionalism. Therefore, both fighters have agreed to avoid spilling their problems into their gym.

“We can’t do anything at American Top Team. That’s a place of business. That’s a sanctuary. And we respect the rules of the American Top Team. We’ve decided to put the beefs aside when we walk into American Top Team. We keep it cool.”- Colby Covington

Covington is at swords’ points with several of his teammates from American Top Team. But Chaos claims that it is all about business when they enter the gym. They adhere to the codes of conduct in the gym too much to let their personal troubles influence their behavior at American Top Team.

“I can’t say what’s gonna happen in the street. You’re probably gonna run from me and run home to Louisiana. We know he’s running from me in the octagon. He ain’t never gonna try and fight me in the octagon.”- Colby Covington

The 32-year-old fighter also claims that Poirier has been avoiding fights with him. He’s sure Poirier lacks the guts to step up to him inside the octagon.

“That’s what makes the whole thing so stupid. He’s a little Lightweight wash-out and he’s trying to call out the greatest Welterweight of all time, me, myself. So the whole thing from the start is just fake news. It makes no sense. The guy needs to stay in his lane, understand his role. Just know your role b***h. I’m at the top of the mountain and I’m what’s saving the UFC.”- Colby Covington

Recent History of Colby Covington and Dustin Poirier

Both the fighters are coming off of losses in title fights. Colby Covington took on Kamaru Usman at UFC 245 in December 2019 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Covington was brought down by a TKO in the 5th round.

Dustin Poirier, on the other hand, has been away from action since September 2019 when he lost against the undisputed Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. The two were headlining UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The Dagestani fighter forced a submission(Rear-Naked Choke) out of the American in the third round to seal his victory.
