Wimbledon Release Statement Following French Open News

The last hour or so has been quite a ride with the organizers announcing the postponement of the French Open. Unsurprisingly, the news sent shock waves across the tennis community. And there is now a genuine reason to believe other Grand Slams are in the same boat. The organizers of Wimbledon released a statement too regarding the Championships.

Wimbledon starts in June, just a couple of weeks after Roland Garros. Wimbledon is also in jeopardy following the French Open news. The coronavirus pandemic is truly disrupting the tennis season as we know it.

To keep everyone well-informed, the All England Lawn Tennis Club made a statement regarding their event and the precautionary steps they are taking.

“The AELTC is continuing to monitor and respond to the coronavirus situation on an active basis, working closely with the government and the relevant health authorities. Following the government’s recommendation to individuals to avoid any non-essential social gatherings, the AELTC has taken the decision to close the Wimbledon Museum and Tours, Shop, and Community Sports Ground.”

However, the fans should not worry too much, as the AELTC allayed fears of cancelation of the event.

“While we continue to plan for The Championships at this time, it remains a continuously evolving situation and we will act responsibly, in the best interests of wider society.”

The organizers seem eager to do everything possible to continue as scheduled. However, it all depends on whether the virus is contained by then. Let’s hope we get to enjoy the short grass season.

Richard Lewis, who is the Executive Chairman of the AELTC, reiterated that their decisions are made with the health and safety of their staff, members and the public at the forefront of their priorities. He also thanked everyone helping in their cause as they navigate through this ‘unprecedented global challenge.’

The organizers had also released a statement last week saying that The Championships will not go ahead behind closed doors. They wish to play only if spectators can go and enjoy the tennis.

Watch this space, the following weeks should bring more news with it.
