Will Usain Bolt Run For World Athletics Presidency? Olympic Legend Discusses The Chances

The retired Jamaican sprinter, Usain Bolt, is well known for his legendary track and field career. Making history in the 100 meters at the 2009 Berlin World Championships, he became the fastest man on the planet. He recorded a personal best of 9.58 seconds; a feat still unbeaten.

Nicknamed “Lightning Bolt”, the athlete is an 8-time Olympic champion. Despite bidding goodbye to his track and field career, Bolt remains an important entity in the world of sports.

Recently, Bolt visited a charity run in Dubai, where he showed an interest in helping World Athletics promote the sport. However, there he revealed his unwillingness to run for athletics’ presidency.

Bolt won’t run for World Athletics’ presidency

Bolt attended a charity run at the Expo 2020, in the Gulf Emirate, Dubai, this Saturday. Talking to reporters, he expressed his readiness to help World Athletics promote the sport.

However, he rejected the idea of donning a position in the office, citing reasons such as stress and the tremendous workload. Bolt has approached its leader, Sebastian Coe, about a formal role but has no plans to run for its presidency.

No, I don’t want that job. That’s a lot of stress and a lot of work,” said Bolt, the greatest sprinter of all time.

Post-retirement, the athlete has been more into football and music, rightly pursuing his other interests.

“Sometimes it gets a little bit, I wouldn’t say annoying”- Usain Bolt

Bolt introduced his victory pose “To Di World” after his double sprint victory at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Since then, his signature move has become a trademark pose.

However, having enacted his lightning strike pose for over a decade now, Bolt certainly is not a fan of it anymore. “Sometimes it gets a little bit, I wouldn’t say annoying. But I understand that I’ve done it to myself,” Bolt said.

However, he acknowledges the fact that the pose didn’t just mark his victory, but also the immense support and love people give him. So, although he doesn’t feel like doing it all the time, he does it for his fans and well-wishers, anyway.

People really enjoy it and it’s for the fans, you know. I mean, it’s a picture that they will treasure forever. So, for me, I’m not always happy doing it, but I do it anyway because it’s for them and it makes them happy,” he said.
