It was indeed a chaotic start to the Mexican GP, with Valtteri Bottas and Daniel Ricciardo triggering a massive chain reaction; Both Mick Schumacher and Yuki Tsunoda had to retire from the race after coming together with Esteban Ocon while trying to evade Bottas’ Mercedes.
The W12 ended up facing the opposite direction just metres away from turn 2. And Fernando Alonso, who was then surrounded by a load of cars, could see nothing but smokes. And it almost looked like the Spaniard was going to collide with Bottas.
But, we may have just underestimated Alonso’s reflexes a bit. The Alpine driver pulled off an amazing evasive action at the very last moment to avoid what could have been a nasty collision with the Mercedes.

And of course, the entire F1 fandom was in awe of how Alonso sneaked his way through the rather hazy section of corners. Not only was Bottas in the middle of the road, but there was quite a lot of debris sprinkled throughout the track, possibly coming from Ricciardo’s front wing.
Twitter reacts to Fernando Alonso’s mind-blowing action
This is exactly what portrays Alonso’s insane racing talent. Had it been any other driver in place of Alonso, there is a little chance that they could’ve avoided an incident as the Spaniard did. And, well, F1 fans have gone berserk on Twitter, with many lauding Alonso’s efforts.
Here are some of the tweets.

Can Alonso garner some points out of the Mexican GP?
Mexico has often treated Alonso a bit too harshly in the past, and similarly, this year too has been quite the same. However, the lap 1 chaos somehow helped the Alpine driver sneak his way up to P9 by lap 20.
What’s more, despite the struggles the car had been enduring through the weekend, it looks like Alonso is working through the conditions quite well, and is en route to claim his only second point-finish at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
But, of course, there is still a long way to go in the race, and Alpine will need to clock decent enough pit stops to keep Alonso’s point-scoring hopes alive. So, can the 2-time world champion come home in the top 10? We’ll know soon enough.
