Is Real Madrid bringing back the ‘Galactico’ Era?

Real Madrid is finally finding their form back again as the Los Blancos navigate a new era under Carlo Ancelotti. The Spanish side is currently sitting second in the La Liga table, behind league leaders Real Sociedad.

However, there is a new shift in the transfer policy in the Spanish capital. Real Madrid was known for their tendency to sign the best players in the world for arbitrarily high prices, namely the ‘Galacticos’.

Real Madrid’s lofty ambitions in the transfer market

The era of Galacticos seems to be returning to the white half of Madrid as Perez is looking to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint Germain. Madrid did put in a huge 200 million euro bid for the Frenchman, but it wasn’t enough for the Parisians to sell the forward.

Things might be different next season though, as Mbappe will be a free agent if he doesn’t sign a new deal with PSG. Moreover, Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland is another young superstar that Real Madrid is looking at. Safe to say, if even one of these two youngsters comes to the Bernabeu next season, the era of Galacticos will truly be back.

Moreover, Carlo Ancelotti will have one of the best squads in the world at his disposal, and it’ll be interesting to see what he can do with it.

The history of Real Madrid and their team of superstars

Madrid in the early 2000s boasted a team full of legends like Luis Figo (famously signed from Barcelona), Ronaldo Nazario, David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, Roberto Carlos, and Iker Casillas. Not to forget, the current Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, was the man who started it all.

A few years later, after a small hiatus from his job (marred by a lot of controversies), Perez was back in 2009 and brought back the Galacticos. He signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Kaka in the same transfer window, making it one of the most memorable transfer windows of all time.

Ever since then, Madrid’s transfer business has been noteworthily astute. They won four UEFA Champions League titles in the 2010s and made sure that they capitalized on their extraordinary squad. With Mbappe and Haaland as their targets, what does the future hold for Real Madrid?
