“Start Playing Tennis Again”: Dominic Thiem Shares Great News for Fans Regarding His ATP Tour Comeback

Four months after his unfortunate injury on-court against Adrian Mannarino at the Mallorca Championships, Austrian tennis star Dominic Thiem had since announced his decision to skip the remainder of the 2021 season, became an analyst at Tennis Channel during US Open fortnight and even had shot for a few commercials in Austria.

As part of his Wimbledon preparation, Thiem decided to take part at the inaugural grass court event in Mallorca and faced Mannarino in the second round. During a baseline exchange between the two, the Austrian injured his right wrist after attempting to hit a forehand passing shot.

Even though the pain didn’t look intense in the beginning, Thiem knew that he shouldn’t continue playing the match and gave a walkover to the Frenchman.

Last week, the Austrian was cynical about his comeback as he didn’t know if he would need a wrist surgery, which will delay the comeback even further.

Now, Thiem has great news for his fans and millions of tennis enthusiasts across the globe. After undergoing tests in Belgium, the Austrian was informed that his wrist is stable and he won’t be needing a surgery. The Austrian took to twitter to express his gratitude for his fans.

Thiem will soon start strengthening the wrist for his ATP tour comeback in 2022

As you all probably know, I had a very important day today. I was in Belgium to decide if I need a surgery for my wrist or not. Luckily, I have very very good news. I won’t need a surgery. It’s looking stable and it’s looking good, my wrist”, Thiem said.

Also, Thiem expressed his enthusiasm to start training immediately and be ready for the ATP tour next year.

Next week, I’ve to make it more flexible. I’ve to strengthen my wrist. I’ve to do everything to prepare to slowly start playing tennis again. I’m looking forward so much to that. It’s been a pretty long time without a racquet. I honestly miss it.

Towards the end, Thiem thanked his fans and mentioned that he wouldn’t have passed this struggling phase without their support. Now that the Austrian won’t need a surgery on his wrist, it’s safe to say that he will likely make his comeback at the Happy Slam(Australian Open) next year.
