2-time Grand Slam champion, Garbine Muguruza, emerged as the champion of the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic 2021. The Spaniard made an incredible comeback against Ons Jabeur after losing the initial set and defeated her in three sets to clinch the title. Interestingly, she even bageled her opponent in the last set. The final scoreline of the match was 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.
Even though Garbine Muguruza played amazingly well, Ons Jabeur led a phenomenal campaign in Chicago. She defeated some big players and ended up as the runner-up of the tournament.
Ons Jabeur rises to the 14th spot in the WTA rankings
Because of her recent success at the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic 2021, there is some good news coming for Jabeur. She has made her debut into the top-15 WTA players and is currently the World No.14 player. Interestingly, she created history in Chicago as she is the first Arab female player to accomplish this feat.
Surprisngly, Jabeur is also on the ninth spot in the list of players that will qualify for the WTA Finals 2021. She is less than 100 points behind Naomi Osaka, who is unlikely to play any more matches in 2021. If she plays well at the Indian Wells Masters 2021 and at the other upcoming tournaments, there is a high probability that the Tunisian will play her maiden WTA Finals this year.
In addition, Jabeur has the most wins for a female tennis player this year. She has a win-loss record of 44-17 in 2021 so far and thus, has one more victory than Aryna Sabalenka (43).
