Nelly Korda Deemed Ineligible for Prestigious Season-Ending Award Despite World No.1 Ranking

Nelly Korda has been enjoying the best season of her career so far. Not only did she shine on the LPGA Tour, but she also brought home the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. As the season draws to an end, the younger Korda sister will of course aim for major awards offered by the LPGA Tour.

However, Golf Channel’s Amy Rogers ended up delivering some unfortunate news. As even though Korda has played an exceptional season, she might not be able to win all awards. The 23-year-old has also admitted to having felt the pressure and has been trying to live in the moment even as difficulties are thrown at her.

Nelly Korda can’t win the Vare Trophy this LPGA season

According to Rogers’ tweet, Korda is no longer eligible to win the Vare Trophy. Learning that Nelly Korda will not be eligible to win the Vare Trophy at the season’s end having not played the requisite number of rounds or events in 2021,” Rogers reported. Additionally, Inbee Park and Jin Young Ko are also ineligible.

All three players are ranked one to third on the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings.

Some fans seemed confused over the announcement, while others agreed with the rules as they are.

“Everyone keeps talking about how I’m playing so well, but I’m going to shoot bad scores,” Korda said. “I’m human.”

While expectations continue to build, Korda is determined to try and stay in the moment. “My face is pretty calm, but not inside. I’m definitely feeling all the emotions inside,” Korda said. The six-time LPGA Tour winner wants to “stay in the moment”, and not work herself up and get ahead of herself.

She even mentioned Roger Federer, who “always had one emotion in a sense”, and was always really calm while on the court. “I kind of tried to take that to golf as well”.
