“A Bit Overwhelming”: Coco Gauff Gives Practical Off-Court Advice to Emma Raducanu Ahead of Indian Wells 2021

American teenage sensation Coco Gauff, who rose to prominence with a stunning victory over Venus Williams in the first-round of 2019 Wimbledon, managed to produce consistent performances over the years and made leaps in her WTA rankings.

Even this year, the American made it to the semi-finals at Adelaide International and Italian Open. She also won the Challenger event in Parma, Italy.

“She has a slam and I don’t”- Gauff on being asked about the advice to give to Raducanu

At the recently concluded US Open, Gauff lost to compatriot Sloane Stephens in the second round but reached the finals in women’s doubles along with Caty McNally.

During the pre-tournament press conference at Indian Wells, the American was asked about Emma Raducanu’s triumph in New York and the advice Gauff might give to the Brit.

“I mean, she has a Slam and I don’t. If anything, I should be asking her”, said Gauff with a smile. However, the American did suggest an off-court habit for Raducanu to follow as the attention on her keeps increasing with each passing day.

Coco Gauff gives an off-court advice to Raducanu after the latter’s US Open triumph

The best thing I could say, and I’m sure she’s probably heard it, is to set time aside from the phone. Because it is exciting when you get all the retweets, all the follows and all of that, but it can be a bit overwhelming. At least in my experience. That’s probably what I wish I would’ve known, not to focus on social media”, continued the American.

Gauff mentioned how she limits the usage of several apps on her phone when she is training.

I put a time limit on my phone because I thought I was spending too much time on it. From 8.30 a.m. to 9.30 p.m., I have limited access to apps”, concluded the American.

Especially over the last few weeks, the entire attention is on Raducanu and the tournaments she is likely to play going forward. When she accepted the wild card from Indian Wells organizers, the buzz for the women’s draw was increased and a lot of fans will be thronging the stadiums to watch the Brit play.
