Couple of PGA Tour Players Offloaded From Flight to Bermuda for Bizarre Reason: Reports

The PGA Tour Butterfield Bermuda Championship is going to be played on the Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton Parish, Bermuda. However, recent news is that the flight scheduled to leave today was a little too full. As a result, they left a couple of golfers back.

Amongst those left behind due to the flight being ‘too heavy’ was defending champion Brian Gay. The 5-time winner on the PGA tour won the second edition of the tournament in 2020. This win came after a seven-year drought as he beat Wyndham Clark in an intense playoff.

However, prior to the start of the 2021 edition, let’s see what exactly went down at the airport.

PGA Tour Bermuda Championship: Why did some not board the flight?

To be held from October 28 to 31, the $6,500,000 event will witness many top players in action. Patrick Reed, Matt Fitzpatrick and Graeme McDowell are a few of the notable names who will tee it up.

Rex Hoggard, golf writer, took to twitter to reveal the happenings prior to the tournament. He wrote, “Interesting situation for this week’s Bermuda Championship. The flight to Bermuda was “too heavy” which meant some weren’t allowed on plane. At least two PGA Tour players were in that group, including the defending champion Brian Gay.”

Hoggard further clarified that the flight was a commercial one, and not a charted one. Moreover, he also confirmed that a single flight leaves daily for the island territory. Hence, unless the left out golfers get onto a private plane, they can only reach the event by tomorrow.

However, the 49-year-old will definitely be there to tee it up at the third edition of the Bermuda Championship. What do you think of this situation? Let us know in the comments below!
