Is Tiger Woods Playing at the 2021 PGA Championship?

The PGA Tour schedule is jam-packed for the 2020-21 season, and the next tournament on the calendar is the PGA Championship. The second major of the year begins May 20 and there is massive excitement surrounding the event. The field is set, but is Tiger Woods competing at the PGA Championship this year?

The PGA Championship is returning to ‘The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island’ for the second time in its history. The first instance was in 2012 where Rory McIlroy comfortably cruised to victory and picked up the second major title of his career.

Will Tiger Woods compete at the 2021 PGA Championship?

Tiger Woods has not played a single event since the 2020 Masters. He finished T38 at Augusta National last year but can still play the 2021 PGA Championship if he chooses to. Unfortunately, Woods will not participate in the tournament due to his ongoing recovery process.

While Tiger Woods is eligible to compete at the PGA Championship, his physical health is barring him from playing. Tiger Woods won’t be a part of the PGA Championship this year, since his recovery timetable is still extending due to the injuries he sustained in the single-car crash in February.

This is disappointing news indeed. Woods will miss the second major of the year as he skipped the 2021 Masters as well. The golf legend is keen on getting back to the tour, but it seems as though the recovery process will take a bit longer than expected.

The PGA Championship might be Woods’ second favorite major. His tally of four PGA Championship titles comes second only behind his historic achievement of six Masters victories. As for last year, Woods finished T37 in the 2020 PGA Championship and finished 12 strokes behind champion Collin Morikawa

However, the field will not be the same at the 2021 PGA Championship without Tiger Woods. The entire golf community is wishing for his speedy recovery and hopefully, Woods can at least play one major this year.

Top picks at this year’s PGA Championship

Defending champion Collin Morikawa will have a lot of work to do this year at The Ocean Course. Morikawa outplayed the field last year, but can he do it again? The 24-year-old is intending to follow in the footsteps of former champions who successfully defended their title at the PGA Championship.

However, guys like Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth got back into form right in time for the PGA Championship. McIlroy has prior experience winning at The Ocean Course and he’s one of the top picks to win this year.

Moreover, Bryson DeChambeau is also expected to create an impact this year since the venue is expected to suit his style. But let’s not count out World No.1 Dustin Johnson as well.

There are so many players who are in contention early on. Who do you think will reign supreme at the 2021 PGA Championship?
