It is safe to say that some Ryder Cuppers have been more than excited for the biennial event to begin. Ian Poulter, who is ready to play his seventh Ryder Cup, is all excited and motivated about the event.
However, not everyone seems to be excited about Poulter’s Ryder Cup appearance. Recently Brandel Chamblee spoke about Poulter, unimpressed at his upcoming appearance.
As Friday’s schedule begins with foursomes, Ian Poulter will be starting with Rory McIlroy. Fifty-nine-year-old Chamblee had his own take on Poulter, which also concerns how his presence could affect Team Europe.
What does Brandel Chamblee have to say about Ian Poulter?
“Pairing up Rory McIlroy with Ian Poulter, that’s a gamble,” said the Golf Channel analyst. He added that maybe the gamble will pay off, but he is truly not the Poulter that was impressing everyone back in 2021.
“This is a guy who has only played sparingly over the last couple of Ryder Cups and wasn’t even playing for Europe in 2016. And of the 24 players here, he is the worst ball-striker–by a lot”.
Chamblee also went on to add that it (Whistling Straits) is a beefed-up golf course, and everyone knows that Poulter can putt.
Additionally, he also spoke about Sergio Garcia and Jon Rahm, harboring some doubt about the former’s putting.
Now, while Chamblee speaks on Sky Sports, not many fans seemed to agree with any of his remarks. The European side will be bringing along a lot of experience to the table, hoping that it gives them an edge over the US Team.

Even though Chamblee seems to doubt Poulter’s position on the team, the Englishman himself is ready to play. “I’m sure I’ve annoyed plenty,” Poulter said a few days ago. “I mean, my percentage has been really nice, for me, and not for the guys I’ve played against, so I’m sure that’s been pretty frustrating to be on the receiving end of that”.
Forty-five-year-old Poulter is also the second-oldest on the Ryder Cup team, the first one being Lee Westwood (48).
