“He Probably Won’t Listen” – Daniil Medvedev Taunts Stefanos Tsitsipas Over Bathroom Break Controversy

In the past few years, Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas have established themselves as key individuals in the next generation of tennis stars. This year, both reached Grand Slam finals, and arrived in New York looking to clinch their maiden Grand Slam in the US Open.

Yesterday, Tsitsipas suffered a shocking defeat to rising teen Carlos Alcaraz Garfia, which ended his participation in the US Open. During the match, the Greek attracted negative reactions from the crowd, as he took his traditional bathroom break yet again.

In a recent press conference, Medvedev gave some advice for the Greek to turn those reactions around.

During his matches at the US Open, Tsitsipas took notoriously long bathroom breaks, which stretched beyond seven minutes on average. Fans in the Arthur Ashe Stadium made their feelings clear, booing the 23-year-old during those matches.

During the 2019 US Open, Medvedev faced a similar situation where his antics upset the fans in the hard court Grand Slam. However, those same fans supported him after his final against Rafael Nadal, which he lost despite putting in a spirited performance.

In a recent press conference, the Russian recalled Tsitsipas’ actions and mentioned how repeating them was a mistake. He said“I want to say, we all need to go to change clothes sometimes. Somebody does it in five minutes, six minutes, eight minutes. What happened with him and Murray happened, he got booed. At least in the next match, don’t go out for eight minutes, and that’s what he did.”

While referencing his own experience from two years ago, the World No. 2 called for the Greek to not repeat those actions. However, he thinks Tsitsipas won’t take his advice, “If you remember 2019, I did a mistake. Well, I was not continuing to do it every other match, otherwise the crowd would not go behind me,” said Medvedev.

“So, that’s the only advice I can give. He has his own life, so he probably won’t listen to my advice”
