Conor McGregor is back to antagonizing his long-time rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov, this time poking fun at the former lightweight champion for his recent controversial comments on ring girls and their relevance to combat sports. Nurmagomedov, who chose to retire from the sport after his last title defense against Justin Gaethje, has kept himself occupied with multiple business and philanthropic endeavors.
Most recently, ‘The Eagle’ appeared in a press conference held in Moscow to promote his MMA promotion, Gorilla Fighting. During this interview, Nurmagomedov addressed several questions related to the UFC, consequently making the following statements regarding ring girls.
“Look, I don’t want to offend anyone. Ring girls are the most useless people in martial arts. What is their purpose? I have a question. You can show that it is the second round on the screen. I realize that is a history. History knows many mistakes. We read history to avoid mistakes of the past in the future. If we look in the history, it says they are useless. That is my personal opinion.”
Soon after hearing of Nurmagomedov‘s comments, Conor McGregor took to Twitter to post the following meme, poking fun at the Dagestan native.

Interestingly, shortly after McGregor shared the photo, longtime UFC octagon girl, Britney Palmer, retweeted the post with the following caption.

Many fans and fighters, including former middleweight champion Michael Bisping, found Nurmagomedov’s comments to be unnecessary. In fact, ‘The Eagle’ also faced backlash from fans for his comments regarding featherweight legend Jose Aldo not being a top fighter anymore, at the very same press conference.

Who will Conor McGregor face in his comeback fight?
Following his recent loss to Dustin Poirier, Conor McGregor has been battling his way back from a terrible leg break. And although the Irishman is adamant to run it back another time with Poirier, one cannot imagine the UFC justifying a fourth fight between the two, especially if Poirier captures the title in December against Charles Oliveira.
Nevertheless, there are several intriguing fights for McGregor whenever he decides to make his return. A great matchup would be the trilogy fight with Nate Diaz. Undoubtedly one of the greatest rivalries in recent UFC history, Diaz vs McGregor guarantees the fans fireworks. Furthermore, the Stockton native is also coming off two losses against Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards.
Interestingly, both fighters have been going at it on social media recently. Clearly, the two will want to run it back at some point, and what’s better than a matchup between the two for McGregor’s comeback?
