World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev took to Centre Court at the Cincinnati Open today to compete in the Round of 16. He faced World No. 21 Grigor Dimitrov with a quarterfinal spot on offer.
Despite the intensity of their match, the Bulgarian gave fans the world over a heartwarming moment of sportsmanship.
Grigor Dimitrov helps Daniil Medvedev during Cincinnati Open quarterfinal
Medvedev entered the Cincinnati Open this year as the top seed. While he is the World No. 2, Novak Djokovic‘s withdrawal from the tournament meant the Russian would be the top seed. Dimitrov, the World No. 21, shocked 13th seeded Roberto Bautista Agut to reach the quarterfinals and face Medvedev.
In the first set, both players engaged in an impressive battle. However, Medvedev portrayed a game of pure class to clinch the set 6-3. In the second set, Medvedev had an unfortunate moment while attempting a return to Dimitrov.
As he chased the ball, he tripped on court since his left foot caught his right foot. This sent him straight to the ground, with his racquet hitting the court violently. What followed next was nothing short of exceptional.

Dimitrov walked to the other side of the court to help the World No. 2, who was laying down on the ground, back to his feet. Along with those at Centre Court, the Bulgarian received praise from several fans on social media. One fan commented, “Grigor is always a class act!”

Medvedev advanced to the quarterfinals
The Russian recovered quickly from his fall to secure his place in the quarterfinals. With a 6-3, 6-3 victory, Medvedev will face either Hubert Hurkacz or Pablo Carreno Busta in the quarterfinals.
After winning the National Bank Open earlier this week, the 25-year-old will look to keep the momentum going by adding another Cincinnati Open title to his 2019 victory. Can the top seed add more ATP 1000 silverware prior to the US Open?
