At the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Cody Ware was pulling double duty. To be precise, he was competing in the IndyCar and in the NASCAR Cup race. This was his third IndyCar start and later on, he was tackling the track in a NASCAR car. Admittedly, the results were not up to scratch, he cared little about it.
Recently, the 25-year-old spoke about the feeling of stepping into the car. He said,“It was the first time doing anything where I felt like I belonged, where I felt like I had a home, a family away from my family. It was something where when I hopped in the race car, all the chatter in my head stopped, and nothing else mattered. It was one of the few times and places in my life where I can just live in the moment.”
Ware has a pretty diverse resume, with stints in the SCCA, IMSA, Porsche Cup andLamborghini Super Trofeo. Eventually, he landed a berth in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2017. In addition to that, he also made his NTT IndyCar Series debut this year at Road America.
Cody Ware loves racing in NASCAR and in IndyCar
The North Carolina native firmly insisted that his heart lies in the NASCAR Cup Series. Though he had harboured dreams of competing in IndyCar, something that he finally realised this year. His father, Rick Ware helped make it possible with a partnership with Dale Coyne Racing.
As a result, Cody Ware is thrilled and believes that the experience will benefit him as a driver. According to him, the training he put in for the IndyCar series has translated into aiding his NASCAR exploits.
“Just being at that next level physically, to be able to withstand the G-forces and braking and things in INDYCAR has helped me be in better physical shape for NASCAR, as well,” he said. “I think just doing what I’ve been doing to train for INDYCAR has bled over and helped my performance in Cup.”
In the end, the driver finished 25th in the Big Machine Spiked Coolers Grand Prix. Meanwhile, he could only muster 40th in the Verizon 200 at the Brickyard during his NASCAR Cup Series race.
