Kemba Walker spent eight seasons in Charlotte and signed with the Celtics in 2019 on a four-season deal. However, after two seasons, the Celtics traded him to Oklahoma City Thunder. The Celtics also traded the 2021 NBA draft first-round pick and 2025 draft second-round pick.
Oklahoma got Al Horford, Moses Brown, and a 2023 NBA draft second-round pick. However, Oklahoma waived Walker. The Knicks pounced upon the opportunity and signed him ahead of the 2021-22 season.
Marc Stein provides a major update on Kemba Walker return
NBA correspondent Marc Stein has revealed on his website that Walker is healthy enough for the coming season according to his sources. Walker played 43 regular-season games with the Celtics, starting all of them. He also featured in three playoff games. But he injured his left knee, which ruled him out for the next two games.
Boston Celtics lost the first-round series in five games. They crashed out of the championship by losing 1-4 vs Brooklyn Nets. Following the loss, the Celtics included Walker in a trade deal with Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder waived him and the Kicks signed him after few days.
Kemba Walker’s injury
Walker was ruled out for six weeks during the 2014-15 NBA season, after undergoing successful surgery in his left knee. The surgery was performed to repair a torn lateral meniscus on Walker’s left knee. In less than 2 months, Walker recovered from his injury. The injury disturbed Walker again at the start of the 2020-21 NBA season.
He was given a stem cell injection in his left knee. This sidelined him early in the 2020-21 season. He came back and played 46 games before the injury came back to haunt him again during the post-season. There’s no doubt over Kemba Walker’s talent and if fit he can a dangerous player. It’ll be interesting to see how Walker contributes to the Knicks’ side this season.
