Undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk is now all set to challenge the current unified heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua, on September 25. This is an interesting matchup as Usyk and Joshua are both extremely technical fighters inside the ring. Ahead of the bout, former cruiserweight and heavyweight champion David Haye shared his prediction for the heavyweight boxing match.
Haye believes Anthony Joshua will walk over Usyk with ease with a knockout. Confident of his prediction, the Englishman even broke down the punching sequence that will knock out the undisputed Ukrainian champion. He said that Joshua’s size and reach advantage will definitely factor into the equation. Haye also feels that Oleksandr Usyk lacks heavyweight strength because of his inability to stop or knockout Derek Chisora.
“I think his style might be very effective if AJ was 6’2″ and 14st.
“But AJ isn’t. AJ is 6’6″ and he’s an absolute specimen, and he’s one of the best athletes ever in the heavyweight division. That just spells knockout defeat for Usyk. If Usyk was the future of the heavyweight division and he’s going to be good enough to beat AJ, he should have at least stopped Derek Chisora or won by a landslide.
“But he didn’t. He wasn’t able to keep the heavier man off him. He didn’t have the firepower. I just don’t see AJ having any problems. I’ll tell you exactly what punch it’s going to be – a jab, right hand, and then a straight jab again. The jab will knock out Usyk. He will knock Usyk out with a jab,” said David Haye.
Anthony Joshua cannot overlook Oleksandr Usyk
Compared to Anthony Joshua’s 35 amateur and 25 professional bouts, Oleksandr Usyk has had 105 amateur fights and 18 professional fights. Throughout his career, the Ukrainian champion has shown great skill, world-class movement, deceptive footwork, and sharp striking. However, he has always been a technical fighter and not a traditional knockout artist.
Usyk’s former opponent, Tony Bellew, believes Anthony Joshua could be in for a long night at the office against the undisputed cruiserweight champion.

“They’re gonna try and take everything away from him. That’s what Usyk does so well. He takes away your strengths before he looks at implementing his own strengths. And by taking away your strengths, you’re lost. The things he does with his feet – he’s exceptional.
“He mentally exhausted me in our fight by constantly having his front foot close to mine. That doesn’t sound much. But it’s mental pressure that he puts on you, not physical. He wouldn’t get involved in any wrestling matches with me. Every time we got close, I would dig him to the body.
“He’s vicious and brilliant,” said Tony Bellew.
