UFC lightweight maestros Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor will head into a war to finally culminate their epic rivalry at UFC 264. The mouthwatering clash is set to headline the event on July 10, 2021.
Both are tied at one win and a loss apiece. The trilogy bout will also decide who will face the current lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira, next.
Before the battle could take place, Poirier appeared for an interview with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. ‘Diamond’ talked about his opponent and how dangerous it could be for him to face the ‘Notorious’ one.
“I feel like the things he has done in his track record, the guys he has beaten the way he has beaten them… the guy is going to be near the top,” Poirier said.
“He is one win away from the title shot, one win away from cracking top 3. I think at ’45 or ’55 as long as he laces up pair of gloves.”
Poirier further added, “As a fan, I won’t forget the way he put away Eddie and put away Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes, and you know all these guys.”

“When he goes back out there and has a good performance and kinda pulls off all that back together and you remember the guy Conor can be. So, I think he is always in the ring,” he concluded.
How has Conor McGregor been doing lately in the ring?
McGregor (22-5) has been an elite fighter and perhaps the most popular face of UFC. His earlier days with the promotion saw him involved in many fights. But lately, his in-ring appearance has reduced dramatically.
His last fight against Poirier ended in a TKO loss (a first of its kind of loss) at UFC 257. Prior to that, he made a successful comeback after a year and a half hiatus by beating Donald Cerrone at UFC 246.
It will be interesting to see how McGregor will come up against Poirier this time around.
