Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso has proved, yet again, that age is but a number. The Spaniard jumped six positions in the first lap of the sprint qualifying to secure a P7 start for himself. While Verstappen overtook Hamilton in the front, sheer brilliance was in the works behind him.
In an absolute power move, Alonso went ahead of Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari and his own teammate, Esteban Ocon. Unstoppable, he pushed back both McLarens, Sergio Perez’s Red Bull, as well as Sebastian Vettel and George Russell.
Alonso started 11th on the grid and was up to sixth in mere seconds. He exclaimed, “Enjoy the show!” on his team radio at the end of the race.“‘I think we should call it Q4. No?”
Alonso laughed, as he reveled in what was a tremendous first nine laps for the Alpine driver.
His first lap was a wonderful start to the race, seeing the veteran rise from the ashes as he returned to the sport. He drove on the outside line, getting a good grip on his soft tires, and did what he does best – kept the charge going. He was focused on getting as much as he could from the car, and it paid off.

The last race in Austria saw Alonso in a wheel-to-wheel battle with George Russell. While the talented Brit defended well, it wasn’t enough; Alonso pushed hard in the last lap and brought home points for Alpine.

Alonso put on a show for the crowds at Silverstone as he defended his P7 against McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo. The Matador skillfully navigated his way through the circuit and maintained his lead till lap 9. Despite that, Ricciardo, an overtaking virtuoso, managed to get through.

This wasn’t the end; the Spaniard still had time for a last-minute battle with Sebastian Vettel on the last lap. He defended his position against the Aston Martin and crossed the checkered flag holding on to it.
Alonso’s skills were under the spotlight today, worthy of respect, as the legend has indeed returned, hungry for more.
