Serena Williams Headlines Strong Player-Field at Cincinnati Open Featuring Naomi Osaka, Victoria Azarenka, and Others

Tennis fans across the globe will have a busy couple of months ahead of them with back-to-back tournaments coming up in the lead up to the US Open. USA’s most-celebrated tennis star Serena Williams, who was forced to retire mid-way from Wimbledon, will be looking for glory on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Ahead of the US Open, the 23-time grand slam champion will be playing the Western & Southern Open(Cincinnati Masters), which starts from the 14th of August.

The organizers at Cincinnati Masters have announced the initial entry list of players from both the tours (WTA & ATP). The list featured all the top stars like Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, etc.

Serena Williams looks to win Cincinnati Masters to have better chances at US Open

A two-time champion at Cincinnati, Serena managed to reach the third-round last year, where she was defeated by Maria Sakkari in three sets. If all players make it to the event, the Cincinnati Masters will turn out to be a battle-field in both the tours.

Coming to Serena, both grass and hard courts are her comfort zone as she managed to win 88% and 85% of matches on them. Even though the American is yet to decide her hard-courts schedule for this year, she is more than likely to play Cincinnati Masters.

The 23-time grand slam champion will have to face intense competition from the likes of Naomi Osaka, Coco Gauff, and others, who have proved themselves to be exceptional hard-court players at a young age.

In her pursuit of the elusive 24th grand slam title, Serena Williams lost a series of finals to youngsters like Bianca Andreescu and Osaka. Last year at the US Open, the American lost to Victoria Azarenka in an intense three-set battle in the semis.

The organizers at both Cincinnati Masters and the US Open have already announced their decision to allow fans inside the courts. In an otherwise uneventful year for the legendary champion, let’s hope that the home-crowd cheers will push Serena Williams to go deep at the Western & Southern Open.
