Scottie Scheffler is in contention to lift the U.S. Open 2021 trophy. He is three strokes behind the leader, going into the last day. Scheffler has always performed decently in major championships. He has never won a major title but has come close in the last couple of majors.
Scheffler is two-under-par for the tournament at the Torrey Pines. His best finish in a major tournament has been T4 at the PGA Championship 2020. And even at the recent Memorial, which is usually a tough course, he finished 3rd in the field. But this time, he has a splendid chance of winning a major championship, and he will surely give his best for the same.
Grinding it out, or a birdie feast, what does Scottie Scheffler prefer?
After shooting -1 in Round 3, Scottie Scheffler came in for a post-round press conference, where they asked him whether he likes these weeks where he has to grind it or the weeks where he can go super low, to which he answered.
“I mean, I’d prefer it to be like this. I kind of enjoy the grind. And I think it eliminates a lot of guys, and I really enjoy it. It’s just one of those deals, I think if I was playing great on a birdie fest I would feel good there, too, but I really do enjoy the grind of a U.S. Open mentally and physically, just going out there and trying to beat up on the golf course.”
The 24-year-old golfer from Texas has been decent with his game so far. His off the tee strokes have been slightly below par, but thankfully, his iron and putting have saved the days for him. On Sunday, he needs to up his tee shots slightly as he will compete with some of the finest.
Meanwhile, Mackenzie Hughes, Louis Oosthuizen and Russell Henley are all tied for the lead, at -5, followed by Rory McIlroy at -3.
Scottie Scheffler will tee off with Bryson DeChambeau, and which also is the third last pairing of the day. Looking at the points table, the fight for the trophy will go down to the wire, and will not be a cakewalk.
