The Golden State Warriors are battling the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Play-in Tournament tonight. While the Lakers may have come in as favorites, Stephen Curry and the Warriors are spoiling their party currently.
The Warriors lead by 13 at halftime, and those last three points came right at the buzzer. With less than 10 seconds left, Curry dribbled into the Lakers half-court. He skipped past Dennis Schroder and Anthony Davis only to be met by Alex Caruso. But Curry outsmarted him with an audacious step-back three.
Despite Caruso doing his best to contest Curry’s shot, the two-time MVP buried it right at the buzzer. The Lakers had a horrible start to the game and Curry’s buzzer-beater was another sucker punch for them. Caruso is one of the best guard defenders in the league. But Curry reminded him he is one of the best offensive players, not just currently but in the history of the game.
Stephen Curry: Leading the team from the front
In the most important game of their season so far, Curry isn’t shying away from the big occasion. He has started the game 5-11 from the field and is 3-6 from the three-point line. He already has 15 points in the first half and is on his way to another 30-point game.
Coming into this game, Curry had not scored 30 points against the Lakers in his last ten games against them. But tonight he looks determined to end that streak. He has had an aggressive start, which was crucial for the Warriors to gain early momentum. However, the Lakers are one of the strongest teams in the league and he will need to carry this form into the second half too for them to get the win.
Can the Warriors pull off this upset?
The Warriors entered the game seeking their first win over the Lakers in three games. They won the first encounter of the season against them, only to lose the next two. So this is also a revenge game for them. Throughout the season, the Warriors have been outdoing expectations and tonight they will be keen to do it once again.
They need a defensively resilient performance in the second half, combined with some Curry fireworks to seal the win. It will be a tough task but they have the tools to pull it off.
