Not many will like what I'm about to suggest.
But with the news that Tom Dearden is heading to the North Queensland Cowboys it's time for Kevin Walters to send him to the Intrust Super Cup.
One option for Walters is to bring back Anthony Milford and tell him he's on his last chance in the NRL. You never know how the off contract playmaker will respond.
Another option is to get Albert Kelly into the team. Kelly has been playing good football for Souths Logan in the Intrust Super Cup and is getting better with every game he plays.
In fact, why not throw Kelly and Milford into the halves?
The fact is, the Broncos need to try something different. They don't need to worry about Tom Dearden's development now, he's leaving. Time to experiment, time to find a way to turn the ship around.
Karmichael Hunt should add some much needed experience, he'll play a role after Round 10. Like Kelly, Hunt's form for the Magpies has been getting better and better with each game he plays.
I feel for Kevin Walters, he's a good man and I believe a very good coach, but he needs time at the Broncos to get them back to being a competitive football team.
As far as 2022 is concerned, I think the Broncos will find it tough to get Adam Reynolds to the club, I'm sure the South Sydney halfback's preference would be to stay in Sydney.
I'd make Scott Drinkwater a priority target. He's a serious footballer and can help turn the Broncos around. Brandon Smith is another player Brisbane should target.
When Kotoni Staggs returns from injury I'd be throwing him straight into the halves to see how he goes as well. It's time for a serious think about 2021 and which halves will make the Broncos competitive again.
Bold calls and tough choices are needed.
