Bathurst champion's shock Supercars return

Two-time Bathurst champion Russell Ingall will make a surprise Supercars return at the age of 57, five years after he last raced at Mount Panorama.

Ingall will team up with 18-year-old Broc Feeney in a wildcard entry for this year's Bathurst 1000, with backing from Supercheap Auto and Triple Eight Race Engineering.

Ingall won the race with Larry Perkins in 1995 and 1997, but hasn't driven at Bathurst since a stint with Rick Kelly in a Nissan in 2016.

At 57, he would be the oldest winner of the Great Race, while Feeney, at 18, would be the youngest.

Russell Ingall and Broc Feeney will team up in a Supercheap Auto entry for this year's Bathurst 1000.

It's not the first time Ingall has been seen in Supercheap colours, having previously raced in the livery for both Paul Morris Motorsport and Walkinshaw Racing.

"I feel like we're part of another Blues Brothers movie - we really have put the band back together," said Ingall.

"When the idea of driving a Triple Eight-prepared Supercheap Auto car at the Bathurst 1000 was presented to me, I didn't need to be asked twice.

"Supercheap is synonymous with Bathurst and Mt Panorama and the race track means more to me than any other place."

Russell Ingall will team up with teenager Broc Feeney for this year's Bathurst 1000.

Feeney currently drives for Triple Eight in the Super2 series, and the highly-rated teenager is believed to be in contention to take over from the retiring Jamie Whincup in the Supercars championship in 2022.

"Russell is a legend in the business," Feeney said.

"To wear the Supercheap Auto colours and have Russell as my teammate in the biggest race of the year is all very surreal, but exciting and I am grateful for the opportunity.

"Having the chance to race with a Supercars and Bathurst champion is an exciting prospect and will certainly help to boost my racing career."

Broc Feeney and Russell Ingall will team up for this year's Bathurst 1000.

Feeney finished 10th on his Bathurst debut in 2020, driving alongside James Courtney.

Triple Eight boss Roland Dane is expecting the Ingall/Feeney partnership to challenge the front-runners at Bathurst.

"I think the unique combination of youth and experience with Broc (Feeney) and Russell (Ingall) will not only turn plenty of heads, but will be competitive," he said.

"Russell will get as much time in the car as we can get him during the year and you know there is no one who would take such an opportunity as seriously as him.

"Broc will get valuable miles in Super2 this season and get his second start in the Bathurst 1000 with one of the sport's most successful drivers."

Ingall first drove at Bathurst way back in 1990, alongside the legendary Kevin Bartlett, and had an incredible run of 12 top-10 finishes in 13 years between 1994 and 2006, including his two victories.
