NFL Draft 2021: Bengals QB Joe Burrow Looks To Reunite With LSU Teammate Ja’Marr Chase

Joe Burrow wasn’t always as sought after talent as he is now. The quarterback burst on to the scene with a Heisman winning performance in the 2019 college football season.

Originally a student-athlete of Ohio State, Burrow made the switch to LSU that changed his fortunes. With the Gators, Joe Burrow played two seasons and solidified his position as the #1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Being drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals, hopes are pinned on Burrow to guide the franchise to their first Super Bowl title. But like at LSU, Burrow can’t possibly do it all on his own.

And for that it seems, he seeks reinforcement in the form of an old college teammate.

An LSU reunion for Joe Burrow and Chase?

According to a recent report by SI.com, the Cincinnati Bengals franchise could be looking at drafting in LSU wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase with their first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

“Word on the street is that Joe Burrow is stumping for Cincy to bring his old Tiger teammate to Ohio,” the report said. “And the Riley Reiff signing gives the Bengals the flexibility to add a playmaker who’s an ideal stylistic fit for their quarterback,” it added.

Chase was earlier Burrow’s teammate back in college and the two linked up to guide the LSU Gators to the 2020 National College Football Championship. While Joe Burrow wowed fans with his performances, Chase too was putting on phenomenal numbers.

Chase decided to sit out the 2020 college season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This effectively makes his last season the 2019 National Championship season. Incidentally, Burrow’s last season in college football as well.

Chase caught 20 touchdown passes from Joe Burrow that season and racked up 1,780 receiving yards. Now declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft, it’s no wonder Burrow would seek a reunion with arguably his best wide receiver from college.

The Cincinnati Bengals have the fifth overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. Do you think the franchise should use it to get Burrow an offensive weapon like Chase? Or should they provide Burrow more protection by drafting a top O-linesman?
