Tszyu showdown in danger of being cancelled

Tim Tszyu's "Steel City Showdown" against Brisbane based Irishman Dennis Hogan is in danger of being cancelled.

It's been revealed Hogan is suffering from a nose injury and is in some doubt to take his place for their world title eliminator to take place at Newcastle Entertainment Centre on March 31, according to News Corp. The report claims the nose could be broken.

Hogan said he will have a medical test this afternoon to assess the damage before deciding if he will in fact take part in the fight.

"I have a little bit of a nose injury but that doesn't mean I'm unable to fight," Hogan told the publication.

"I'll have an assessment from the medical team this afternoon."

A cancellation would be a huge blow for Tszyu, who has eyes on a world title shot against newly crowned WBO super-welterweight champion Brian Castano.

When the Australian's promoter was contacted about the injury reports, George Rose of No Limit said he was unaware of any problems with the Hogan camp.

If the fight is cancelled it would almost certainly be too late to organise a ring-in to take Hogan's place.

Even if they did secure a replacement, it would be doubtful the bout would be a title eliminator.

Hogan is the best super-welterweight in Australia Tszyu hasn't faced and fighting anybody else in the lead up to a potential clash with Castano would be deemed risky at best, if the WBO allowed it to take place.

If the Tszyu camp brought in someone from overseas then they would need undergo two weeks quarantine.

Hogan's management is expected to make a call later tonight after the full extent of the injury is known.
