Rockets’ John Wall Reveals Shocking Details About His Road to Recovery from a Ruptured ACL

Houston Rockets star John Wall was praised by Buddy Hield

After watching John Wall make his debut for the Houston Rockets, all everyone could think of was ‘And… he’s back!’ It might not have been easy for Washington fans to see him play with another organization. But it looks like this is exactly the fresh start he needed. His much-awaited return came with the five-time All-star putting up 22 points, 9 assists, and 6 rebounds in his debut with Rockets against the Sacramento Kings.

The blockbuster trade to Houston Rockets

This offseason witnessed many unexpected trades. One of them was the Washington Wizards sending off John Wall to the Rockets after a decade of his career with them. John was the Wizards’ first overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. The talented point guard not only brought the franchise to another level, but he also made fans of a lifetime.

Unfortunately, his story with the Wizards didn’t end as expected. He last played for the organization he admits to always loving on December 26, 2018. Then came along his ruptured Achilles Tendon that shelved him for a good two years.

When it was announced that Wall was going to make his debut after 765 days, fans were thrilled. However, the Wizards no longer felt that they would get the same value from him as before. So Russell Westbrook was in and John Wall, out.

Road to recovery for John Wall

Wall missed the starting two games with Houston because of NBA’s health and safety protocols in light of the coronavirus. But the following two games must have made the Wizards regret letting him go. In his second game against the Kings, he finished with 28 points. So far, it looks like the Rockets made the right choice.

In an interview with Shams Charania, John opened up about his injury struggles. Shams asked him about he went about his rehab and John said, “I always had a chef. Just like a diet and taking better care of my body. I hired a physical therapist to be with me all the time and a massage person. Just doing all the other things you feel like you need to make your body feel better at a high level.”

Going into detail about his injury, Wall stated, “It was tough. For months, I went through 3-4 different infections. It got to the point where, okay, are you going to have to cut your foot off or not?”

Wall talked about how people consistently told him that Achilles is the worst of it and most people don’t recover from it. But he emphasizes the importance of tackling it smartly. This is definitely an inspiration to any players who might go through this in the future and players like Klay Thompson who is still in rehab.
