Star Wars Squadron Clears First Round of Critic Reviews

Star Wars Squadron by Motive Studios is all set to bring back the epic Star Wars tale. Since 1982, the franchise has been entertaining its fans with films and gaming titles. Perhaps one of the most extensive fan-fiction franchises ever, Star Wars Squadron will be met with a lot of expectations.

Talking of expectations, the initial bout has been fought. Just before its release, the critics’ reviews are out. In this article, we will round-up all the important reviews this game has received. But before that, here is all you need to know about Star Wars Squadron.

The Star Wars Squadron reviews are largely based on its single-player story campaign. The game will also feature 5v5 multiplayer modes, which will be playable soon. The multiplayer will have gamers engage in dogfights and fleet battles in space.

The story mode is playable from either the New Republic or a Galactic Empire perspective. The game is set after the events of Return of the Jedi.

Star Wars Squadron Review Round-Up

IGN- 8/10

Star Wars: Squadrons’ single-player campaign tells an entertaining story, while its flight controls hit a sweet spot between accessibility and nuance – and it’s made even better by VR and HOTAS support.

Gamesradar- 3.5/5

While the single-player doesn’t quite deliver anything more compelling than a chance to get used to the game’s style, the multiplayer seems primed to offer up plenty for those who have been waiting for an experience like this for quite some time.

Twinfinite- 4.5/5

I initially thought that Star Wars Squadrons’ single-player campaign was simply there to prep you for the multiplayer, and to an extent it is. But it’s not as barebones as I expected and I came away thoroughly impressed and itching to dive into the multiplayer.”

Game Informer- 8.25/10

Squadrons’ single-player may fizzle out frequently like a malfunctioning hyperdrive motivator, but the multiplayer continually impresses and is worth the price of entry alone. Flying in formation with a group of friends put a smile on my face, and that was just the calm before the storm.

VG247- 4/5

“Nothing in Squadrons is really wasted – in fact, it feels like the development team behind it has been extremely economic.”

Vandal- 8.4/10

There are no plans to expand the game in the future with more modes, ships, or battlefields. And although this is not a defect as such, we could not avoid missing having the possibility of fighting at different times of the saga to be able to pilot more types of fighters.” (translated using Google Translate)

In conclusion, the game has mostly gotten positive reviews in regards to the single-player mode. A few reviews are pending due to the multiplayer servers, some of which are still not live.

While there is a possibility that the single-player mode would get repetitive after a period, the multiplayer will most definitely keep things fresh and exciting. Star Wars Squadron releases for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on October 2.
