LeBron James led Los Angeles Lakers, blew out the Portland Trail Blazers in yesterday’s game 4 clash. The Lakers took a 3-1 lead over them, but Damian Lillard‘s presence is more than enough for Blazers to have little hope.
However, after injuring his left index finger earlier in the series, Lillard picked up another injury in game 4. He picked up this injury late in the third quarter while driving to the lane. Lillard left the court limping and did not return for the rest of the game.
Lillard’s first MRI was inclusive, but the second MRI confirms that Lillard is out for the game 5 matchup against the Lakers. He has a right knee sprain and it won’t be healed in time for Game 5. Chris Haynes from Yahoo Sports gave us a clearer picture of Dame’s situation. He said:
“Odds drastically slim of Portland extending series to six without Damian Lillard, but if that were to occur, the Bubble MVP would likely be unavailable the duration due to currently being unable to extend right leg”

However, it looks like he won’t be able to overcome the Lakers in the first round of the playoffs after all. With already being down 3-1 in the series, the chances of a comeback are looking blurry now.
Is this the end for the Portland Trail Blazers’ playoff run?
The Blazers were magnificent in game 1 of the series, where they managed to defeat the Lakers. But since then, they have lost three consecutive games in the series which includes two blow out victories for the purple and gold.
Damian Lillard has been stupendous for the Blazers this year. The Blazers’ All-Star averaged a mammoth 37.6 points and 9.6 assists in the Bubble games and won the Bubble MVP award. Apart from his Bubble games heroics, he averages the third-most points this season.
The Blazers will most probably give Gary Trent Jr. the starting spot. But without Damian Lillard, the duo of James and Davis might be too much for the Blazers.
Can the Blazers extend the series to six games? Or will they pack their bags?
We will have our answer after game 5 of this first-round series in the NBA playoffs.
