Just over a week into its return from a lengthy hiatus, the AFL has been hit with a bombshell with Essendon star Conor McKenna testing positive to COVID-19.
McKenna had spent the AFL's hiatus period back in Ireland with his family and was set to play in the Bombers' clash with Melbourne on Sunday afternoon after serving his 14-day quarantine period.
According to AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan, the dashing defender returned five negative tests since his return, before returning a "low level irregularity" on Friday, and is said to be asymptomatic.

AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan is set to discuss the ramifications of McKenna's positive test in a press conference at 4pm, a major blow that puts the entire season in jeopardy once again.
Essendon's Round 3 clash with Melbourne, which was originally scheduled to be played at 3.35pm AEST on Sunday at the MCG, has since been postponed in the wake of McKenna's positive test.
All 18 clubs have been notified of the decision to postpone the clash.
Prior to Round 1, McLachlan had stated that the season would be automatically shut down for 30 days in the event of any player's positive test.
However, the AFL revised that call prior to the Round 2 restart, with the league confident it could continue playing with additional protocols now in place.
