Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to relegate former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed to “Category C” in a new central contracts list which will be renewed in July.
Sarfaraz was in Category A in the last contract and was captaining the side across formats but was sacked from the captaincy and lost his place in the side too in October 2019.
“Sarfaraz has been demoted to Category C in the new contracts as he is presently not a member of the playing side,” a PCB source said to PTI.
Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik were also dropped from the central contract list last year as the board awarded the contract to only 19 players. According to the policy of the board, the number of contracted players were reduced from 32 to 19.
Source also said that openers Shan Masood and Abid Ali is likely to be promoted to Category B while Champions Trophy 2017 player of the tournament Hasan Ali could lose his contract.
The committee that comprises PCB CEO, Wasim Khan, Director International Cricket Operations, Zakir Khan, and the head coach-cum-chief selector, Misbah-ul-Haq have finalized the new list of contracted players.
