An Australian Schoolboys representative is looming as the likely replacement for Cody Walker should the five-eighth be forced to sit on the sidelines for his part in a street fight.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports former Eels and Broncos player, Troy Dargan, will replace Walker in the halves if the NRL integrity unit elects to ban the 30-year-old.
If the young star is selected, then Dargan will be the fifth former Broncos player to play under coach Wayne Bennett at the Rabbitohs.
The club is hoping they will learn of Walker's fate by Friday.
South Sydney are also anxiously waiting on a decision surrounding James Roberts and whether or not will he need to undergo a 14-day isolation period after recently checking himself out of a rehabilitation facility.
NRL interim chief executive Andrew Abdo said on Thursday a biosecurity expert was carefully assessing Roberts' case after he spent the past few weeks in a facility to deal with mental health issues.
Abdo said a decision could be expected before the weekend but there is a chance Roberts could be forced to isolate for two weeks outside of the Rabbitohs' bubble.
"It will be purely based on protecting the health of James, the Rabbitohs squad and the broader community," he said.
