Juan Martin del Potro is gradually working his way to full physical fitness once again, after a significant break from the sport. As frustrating as it could be for him to wait even longer if the Tour suspension continues, he understands the gravity of the situation we are in.
Juan Martin is undoubtedly the unluckiest person in the tennis world. A supremely talented player, the Argentinian can beat just about anyone from his era when he is fully fit. That includes Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal.
However “when fully fit” is the key phrase here seeing as he has spent a ton of time on the doctor’s table.
Juan Martin del Potro talks coronavirus
Earlier in his career, Juan Martin struggled constantly with wrist injuries, that too both of them. Since then, his knees have troubled him big time. Such consistent injury woes would have driven other men to early retirement, but not this great fighter.
While playing in the Queen’s Club Championships last year, Del Potro fractured his right knee cap during his victory over Denis Shapovalov. He has undergone two surgeries since then, on the same knee.
As he makes his way back to fitness, he expressed his thoughts on the ongoing coronavirus situation across the planet. He is on board with the precautionary actions that authorities of most countries are asking for.
“This is not a joke, it is not someone’s whim. It is what we have to live. We must abide by what is asked. If we continue walking down the street, as usual, there will come a time when 50 percent of the population will be infected. In Argentina, this is just the beginning. You have to be patient and respect quarantine. I think that the measures taken here are correct, from what you see is happening in Europe.”
Well said Delpo!
Even today, after all that we have been through, many people across the globe are not taking the COVID-19 seriously enough. It is vital we quit the indifference and truly start taking the necessary steps to combat the spread.
