The NBA is going haywire now that two of its players have been diagnosed with the dreaded Coronavirus. All operations of the league were suspended as soon as the first case of Rudy Gobert tested positive. According to the NBA, this interval is expected to last at least 30 days. However, Draymond Green feels otherwise.
Draymond Green: Difference of opinions
After Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz were tested positive for Coronavirus, inevitable panic struck amongst players. The fact that their peers were affected by the disease obviously shocked and scared them.
According to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, this hiatus would last at least 30 days. However, Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green feels that it might extend much longer than just 30 days.
“It is insane,” Green told Marcus Thompson III of the Athletic. “It’s one of those things where it doesn’t hit home until it hits home. The stuff that happened with the Jazz, honestly, just put everybody on alert.”
Talking about how he feels about Rudy Gobert being tested positive he said,
“You’re thinking, ‘It won’t happen to me. It won’t happen to me. It can’t happen to me.’ Then it happens to someone in your same field. Someone you’re on the court with four times a year — and you’re playing against players he played against. To be honest, it makes me think about everybody who possibly could be affected that don’t necessarily have health care or enough resources to get through this.”
Help from the top
Green raises concerns over those going through these crises but may not have the resources to keep themselves safe. Fortunately, people like Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Cavaliers’ player Kevin Love are trying to contribute to the non-playing support staff. The community is helping out and reaching out to those in need.
Health officials have given an estimate for the vaccine. It will take between 12 to 18 months to develop a vaccine for the coronavirus. Hence, for now, suspension of the season is the only way to help contain this dreadful pandemic. The NBA community must prepare itself to wait and help as much as possible in these trying times.
We hope and pray for the speedy recovery of all those who may be affected.
