Naomi Osaka is currently following the quarantine forced upon us by the coronavirus pandemic. With no tennis to take up any time, she decided to answer some questions put to her by the fans. While many questions were tennis related, there were other interesting ones too.
Naomi Osaka has spent most of her life in the USA having moved there from Japan as a three-year-old. She held dual citizenship until last year when she opted to represent Japan in the Tokyo Olympics. In accordance with Japanese law, Osaka had to relinquish her American citizenship.
When it comes to Japan, there is one thing we cannot oversee- anime. Anime fans world over will be delighted to hear the 2019 Australian Open champion enjoys watching anime. It should hardly come as a surprise to anyone.
Naomi Osaka makes her anime choice
Japan is the land of anime, and it is an integral part of their culture. Many people wrongfully think of anime as an alternative to cartoons for children. However, if you dig a bit deeper, you will realize that anime explores all kinds of themes- even deep philosophical questions as well.
Naturally, one fan asked Naomi which her favorite anime series was and looking at her answer it is clear she has a few of those.
She decided to go with an anime series called Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. I remember watching the series as a kid around a decade ago. Naomi clearly knows her animes I tell you.
If my memory serves me right, it is actually a pretty intriguing series to watch. Although it went a bit downhill near the end.
So there you go, a peek into the interests of Naomi Osaka, off the tennis courts.
The tennis Tour is currently under suspension due to the coronavirus outbreak. If all goes well, the Tour will resume on June 7.
As Naomi said, not many know about Code Geass in particular, so perhaps you can enjoy watching it while you wait out the pandemic.
