India accused of using underhanded tactic

India have been accused of using a questionable tactic in the second Test against New Zealand as the cricketing powerhouse desperately fights to avoid its first series whitewash in eight years.

Having spluttered to a target of 132, the tourists needed to knock down some early wickets with the Black Caps looking all but certain for a 2-0 sweep.

In the firing line yesterday for appearing to tell the Kiwi crowd to "shut the f--- up", Virat Kohli was again in the thick of it by the fourth over when he was lashed by umpire Richard Kettleborough after a seemingly innocuous play.

Kettlborogouh was adamnt he had heard a fielder shouting "two" as Kiwi batsman Tom Lathan played for a single with a nudge to fine leg.

The officials were convinced India were looking to confuse the Kiwi batting duo into chasing a second run that was never on and risk a wicket.

"No shouting two," the ICC umpire of the year four times, was heard telling Kohli. "You shouted two there."

Kettleborough seemed unimpressed by the skipper's explanation that the call was to alert the fielder at fine leg of the possibility of a second run.

"No you're not, you shouted here, enough please."

Kohli fires up at Kiwi crowd

It's been a trying series for Kohli who has endured a tough time at the crease, scoring just 17 runs across two innings at Hagley Oval.

The 218 runs he scored across nine matches in three formats during New Zealand is the lowest he has ever achieved on a tour.

On Sunday he found himself in hot water, telling the crowd to "shut the f--- up", while celebrating the wicket of Latham.

The 31-year-old was also spotted mocking the crowd on Sunday, imitating a drunk person.
