It’s a common misconception that for anyone to have a successful career in NBA, their height has to be above 6ft. Several NBA legends like Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Shaquille O’Neal, and Wilt Chamberlain were above seven feet tall. However, in a league of big men, a five-foot-three-inch playmaker made his way. While they considered even 6 ft tall players short according to league average, he made it to the league. And his name is Muggsy Bogues. The Charlotte Hornets legend, Bogues was a long-term teammate of Dell Curry, the father of Seth and Stephen Curry. He first hand witnessed the growth of the greatest shooter in the history of basketball. So of course, Stephen has a special relationship with Bogues.
Stephen Curry honors his uncle Muggsy Bogues on the release of his documentary
Curry has updated his Instagram story in honor of a player who he feels there’s “No way he should have made it” to the NBA. And it is none other than his uncle Bogues. Stephen Curry grew up watching Muggsy play along with his father at the Charlotte Hornets. They both were long-term teammates and are still close friends.
Even Muggsy sometimes cannot believe that the boy who he was famously flying around like an airplane in the locker room ended up being the best shooter in the world.
Muggsy Bogues’ documentary: ‘Always Believe’
Muggsy Bogues was a key figure in the city of Charlotte’s long-term pro basketball success. He played with a lot of heart on the court, and he’s remained active in the community after his career ended. He coached the WNBA’s Charlotte Sting and the boys’ basketball team at United Faith Christian Academy. When the Hornets relaunched in 2014, he was also a franchise ambassador.
Muggsy Bogues defied the odds on his journey to becoming the shortest player to ever play in the NBA.
