NOT Shohei Ohtani! Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Names This LA Angels Star as Best MLB Hitter

The Toronto Blue Jays fought until the final day of the regular season to stand a chance of making the postseason this year. One of the reasons they managed to do so was their star hitter, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. who produced phenomenal performances.

The 22-year-old filled the stats sheet with his consistency and power, featuring among the top candidates to win the AL MVP. Recently, Guerrero Jr. took a set of questions in rapid fire format, in which he revealed who he thought was the best hitter in the MLB today.

During the 2021 season, Guerrero Jr. scored a whopping 123 runs and recorded 111 RBI for the Blue Jays. With 48 home runs and an OPS of 1.002, the Canadian-born hitter earned his first ever All-Star call-up.

Recently, Guerrero Jr. won the prestigious AL Hank Aaron Award for his impressive hitting in the league. In addition, he also won his first Silver Slugger Award and ended the season as the MLB Home Run Leader, tied with Salvador Pérez of the Kansas City Royals.

During a rapid fire Q&A, the 22-year-old was asked who he thought was the best hitter in the MLB. Despite LA Angels’ Shohei Ohtani producing an incredible season at the plate, Guerrero Jr. went for Ohtani’s teammate Mike Trout.

In 2021, Trout produced an underwhelming season with 23 runs and 18 RBI in 36 games played. However, he fared extremely well when he was around the same age as Guerrero Jr. back in 2012, recording 129 runs and 83 RBI.

Guerrero Jr. saved special praise for the San Diego Padres

When asked which player carried the most style in the league, the 22-year-old didn’t hesitate in mentioning Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. In addition, Guerrero Jr. also admitted the Padres have the best uniform in the league.

Although Guerrero Jr. and his Blue Jays teammate Marcus Semien feature in the AL MVP race, Ohtani looks most likely to win the award due to his phenomenal two-way season. Despite the Japanese star’s individual prowess, Guerrero Jr. can look forward to 2022 knowing he produced an incredible 2021 season.
