The biggest and longest debate in the world of football has always been- Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi, who is the better player? The two superstars have dominated the game for over 15 years, and continue to exhibit brilliance, even at the age of 36 (Ronaldo) and 34 (Messi).
Their greatness has set them apart from others who came before them like Pele and Maradona, and while there might be some controversy in that statement, it still isn’t as close as choosing between these two superstars. Don’t believe us? Just ask former Chelsea manager and player, Frank Lampard.
Frank Lampard gives Cristiano Ronaldo the edge over Lionel Messi
Frank had previously said in an interview that he finds Messi as the better player between the two, but after seeing Ronaldo perform in the UEFA Champions League for Manchester United, he has seemingly changed his mind.
“I actually think for what Ronaldo’s output and actual numbers and goals in big finals, and semi-finals like we’ve seen. I think I maybe give him the edge now,” Lampard said in an interview with the Overlap.

The two GOATs have also played when Lampard was a player. Notably, the Englishman was in his prime during Ronaldo’s first years in the Premier League. Lampard also won the UCL title against Messi’s FC Barcelona in 2012. Meanwhile, he won the league in 2005 with Ronaldo’s Manchester United missing out on it.
Lampard or Gerrard- who was the better English midfielder?
It is no secret, Lampard is a legend himself and back in the day, he was part of a similar debate. Often compared to his England compatriot and Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard, the duo shared an intense rivalry in their playing days. Notably, with back-to-back title wins in the Premier League and an immensely successful Champions League campaign in 2012, Lampard edges past Gerrard as the better player.

However, if it’s a question of their managerial skills, Gerrard seems to have taken the lead. The Liverpudlian is the manager of Premier League club Aston Villa after winning the Scottish Championship with Rangers FC. On the other hand, Lampard was sacked from Chelsea after several abysmal performances from his team.
