“You’re Just Putting More Negativity Out There”- Aspen Ladd Hits Back at Miesha Tate for Recent Comments

Aspen Ladd takes on Norma Dumont in the main event at UFC Vegas 40 this weekend. This will be the first time competing for Ladd, who has not fought since December 2019 when she secured a TKO win over Yana Kunitskaya.

This weekend, Ladd makes her debut as a featherweight following issues making weight in the 135-pound division. Just two weeks ago, Ladd failed to make weight for her fight against Macy Chiasson at UFC Vegas 38, tipping the scales at 137-pounds.

She received widespread criticism from fighters and fans alike for her inability to make weight. Most notably, former bantamweight champion Miesha Tate was particularly harsh on Ladd and branded her a ‘cheater’.

Ladd shared her thoughts on the criticism from the former champion during media day prior to her fight at UFC Vegas 40. She said, “I respect Miesha very much as a fighter. I’ve wanted to fight her ever since she came back. She is probably one of the biggest names in women’s MMA besides Ronda and Cyborg. So when she came back, I think all the 35-ers basically wanted a piece of her and I am one of them.”

She continued, “There’s just this thing where somebody else is going through something that is not very pleasant, I’d rather never make them feel worse or comment on it. Why? You’re just putting more negativity out there. Other people don’t feel that way. So, we’ll see, maybe we’ll meet down the road.”

Aspen Ladd takes on Norma Dumont in just her second main event in the UFC

Norma Dumont was set to face former champion, Holly Holm, this weekend. However, after Holm pulled out of the bout due to injury, it perfectly opened up an opportunity for Ladd to not only headline a card but also make her debut at featherweight.

Ladd will be hoping to get off to the right start in her new division after almost two years out of action. Dumont, on the other hand, will be aiming to build on her two-fight win streak.
