World’s First Beatles-Themed Golf Course Opens in Minnesota; Holes Are All Named After Beatles Songs

Who said music and golf cannot be combined? Well, fans of The Beatles are in for a mighty treat. In the most exciting thing, you would’ve seen all day, we bring to you- A Beatles-themed golf course. Born of the love for golf and the legendary rock band, a fusion of the two has recently captured the golf world.

Greg McKush is the owner of Montgomery National Golf Club. His family owned a 9-hole course in the Minneapolis suburbs, which gradually became an 18 hole course. In 2002, the family sold it and they rebuilt it as The Meadows at Mystic Lake, a popular course in the state. McKush, however, stayed on as a manager and later became the director of golf.

As a side job, he was into acting, modeling and was even in a band with his two sons! Perhaps this is where a new idea popped into his head. On March 23, 2018, he bought an 18-hole Joel Goldstrand golf course in Montgomery. A fusion of two of his passions, McKush was determined to turn it into the course of his dreams.

What are the attractions at the Beatles-themed course?

A 17-foot guitar that greets everyone at the entrance gives a clear message of what lays ahead. The course is as done up as it gets. The website’s homepage is the image of the ‘Abbey Road’ album, the scorecards are music-themed and the course even boasts of a rare Beatles jukebox! A 25-foot one-ton submarine floats on the pond on the 18th hole, a memorable ending to an exciting course.

And if you’re lucky, you can even catch the man himself singing outside! He’ll often grab his guitar and provide another source of entertainment to the golfers.

However, there is still a lot to be done. He still has plans to implement and changes to make. Alongside a clubhouse that’s under construction, he plans to expand the pond and renovate and add more bunkers.

Unsurprisingly, the holes are named after popular songs of the band. The first is ‘With a Little Help From My Friends’, 6th is ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’, etc. The last hole, however, is the ‘Yellow Submarine’ and ‘The End’. Very fitting indeed.

Montgomery golf course- a treat for all

The par-72 6544-yard course boasts of the world’s first music-themed championship golf course. And the best part? McKush is the most fun-loving and excited person on the course, whose enthusiasm will be a cherry on the cake. In a show of his dedication and love, he said, “You could give me $50 million, and I wouldn’t take it. It’s too much fun.”

One feature which not everyone knows about- well, it’s not something particularly attractive- is that it’s haunted. It features on the list of the top-1o haunted courses in the country and more than a few eerie incidents have taken place.

Apparently buried underneath a cottonwood tree on the first fairway are the two owners of the original farm. McKush even recounted a few of his experiences, which he says are ‘totally true‘.

What do you think of this fascinating idea? Would you play here?
