Wilder's trainer drops stunning injury revelation

Deontay Wilder's trainer has made the stunning revelation that the heavyweight boxer broke his hand during his loss to Tyson Fury in the pair's trilogy bout.

Wilder's courage earned the admiration of the boxing world yesterday, with the American dueling with Fury until eventually being stopped in the 11th round.

But his brave performance proved costly, with trainer Malik Scott detailing a long list of injuries he sustained during the epic clash.

"He's got a busted lip, he broke his hand, his finger or something like that is broken," Scott told ESNews.

"But life goes on. I really don't want Deontay talking about boxing, doing nothing with boxing for quite some time. I want him to get some good rest, especially after this."

Deontay's refusal to shake Fury's hand made for an explosive post-script to the fight.

But Scott was willing to acknowledge Fury's victory.

"Deontay looks at Fury as a man he had serious issues with, concerning things that he felt and certain allegations that were out and certain things that he actually saw with his own eyes," Scott said.

"After they released that energy, all that tension, he still felt the way he felt.

"When he left the ring and I was following him out, I was going to go shake the competitor's hand and just tell him you know, 'Good fight, man'."

Scott also revealed what the pair spoke about during Wilder's time in hospital.

"I ran the whole night through him bit by bit," Scott said.

"I told him how he was doing in the shake-out, I told him how he was looking in the walk-out, I told him how he was relaxed.

"I told him in the first round how he came out, he did great, he did everything we worked on, he took control of the centre of the ring.

"I told him things I didn't like that we've got to continue to work on."
