“They Got the Talent, But..” – Boston Red Sox Legend Pinpoints New York Yankees’ Biggest Problem

Although the New York Yankees made the MLB playoffs this year, they suffered a bitter end to their season. In the AL Wildcard game earlier this month, the Yankees suffered a heavy loss to their arch-rivals, the Boston Red Sox, which saw them go another season without a World Series title.

Despite possessing some of the most talented players in the MLB today, the Yankees struggled to bring back their glory days of old. Recently, former Red Sox legend David Ortiz gave his take on the current Yankees team, highlighting the key quality they need to succeed in the future.

David Ortiz believes the New York Yankees need team chemistry

In a career spanning nearly two decades, Ortiz had his fair share of run-ins with the Yankees. The former Red Sox designated hitter established himself as one of the greats of the game, winning the World Series three times. In addition, he also featured in the All-Star game 10 times and features on the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame.

In a recent interaction, Ortiz believed although the Yankees have top talents, they lack team chemistry. The 45-year-old added without chemistry, even the most talented teams face little chance of achieving success.

He said“They don’t need more players, they need new chemistry. They got the talent. But the chemistry comes from the talent. If you have no chemistry you can have the best talent and you’re not going to win.”

Can the Yankees find their stride in 2022?

The Yankees finished this year’s regular season with a 92-70 record. Although they showed consistency in the regular season, they need to find that same consistency in the postseason.

Recently, the Yankees signed manager Aaron Boone to a three-year contract extension. While they have stars like Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, fans stand divided on the team’s decision to retain Boone. Whether it turns out to be a good decision with an eye towards the future, only time will tell.
