Roger Federer is widely regarded as one of the most elegant tennis players of all time. The 20-time Grand Slam champion was born in Basel, Switzerland. Federer has always confessed his love for the beautiful country. Just recently, Roger Federer was honored with a tram named after him in Basel.

Federer inaugurated the sleek new tram, ‘Federer Express’ in Basel. The Maestro also tweeted and acknowledged the huge honor he’d just received. Federer said people should be happy when they see this tram.

Roger Federer designed the ‘Federer Express’

Recently, Roger Federer was honored with a special tram exclusively named after him in Switzerland. The former World No. 1 inaugurated the ‘Federer Express’ in Basel, Switzerland. Moreover, Federer was also involved in designing his own tram.

In an interview, Federer was asked, “You were also involved in designing the Federer Express. What was important to you?” To this, the Swiss replied, “Well, it’s been a long process. And I have to say, it feels a bit strange to present yourself on a tram. It was therefore important to me that it was a tram for the city, not for me. People should be happy when they see the tram.”

Furthermore, he added, “The tram is therefore provided with highlights of my career and moments of success. In addition, there is various other information about my career or my childhood to read inside the tram.”

Federer’s injury update

Roger Federer last competed at Wimbledon championships 2021. Federer cruised into the quarter-finals after surpassing the first four rounds easily. In the last 8 of the competition, the Swiss faced Hubert Hurkacz of Poland. Despite showcasing some good tennis in the tournament, Federer handed over an easy win to Hurkacz.

After Wimbledon, the 20-time Grand Slam champion suffered a knee injury, resulting in his withdrawal from the remainder of the season. However, Federer has given some optimistic news as he hopes to make a comeback to the tennis court for the 2022 season.
