Newcastle United Target Barcelona Star as First Signing After Take Over

When Sergio Aguero signed for Manchester City in 2011, it took the club to unprecedented heights. What followed was a host of Premier League titles and domestic cups. Manchester City’s new owners invested heavily into the club as they became a worldwide famous soccer club. Newcastle United fans will be hoping for a similar turnaround in their fortunes.

The Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund have bought the club and will be looking to make a big impact. Moreover, they are looking at key players with one Barcelona player high on the list.

Philippe Coutinho is on the radar

The first player they are looking at is a former Premier League player in Philippe Coutinho. He is currently playing in Barcelona while the club is under a lot of trouble with financial debts. Hence, Barca will be open to off-loading players in the January transfer window.

The club wanted to sell the player in the summer but there were not enough offers from the clubs. Thus, with the new ownership in place, Barcelona wants 50 million pounds for the player as Newcastle can afford it easily. The player was inducted into the PFA Team of the Year in 2015.

The move, however, does seem strange from Newcastle’s perspective. Coutinho has not enjoyed his time in Spain and has failed to impress in recent appearances.

The richest club in the world- Newcastle United

After this takeover, the club have the richest owners in the world. With the club being bought for 300 million pounds, Mike Ashley’s torrid time has ended with the club. Now, the fans want success.

The club became the English Division champions back in 1927 and they won their last major piece of silverware in 1955. They have not won a game this season as they lie 19th in the table. Players like Allan Saint-Maximin are the future of this club. With the potential arrival of Coutinho, a potential rebuilding process will be underway.

With Mbappe available in the summer, it would be a major coup if they can get that done. However, it does seem a bridge too far.
