National Mulligan Day: John Daly Reveals the One Shot He Wants to Retake in His Career

On October 17, it’s National Mulligan Day. When it comes to golf, a mulligan means a player gets their second chance to re-do an action. It’s an opportunity for someone to give themselves another chance at something they would like to change.

Recently, John Daly, who is currently playing the SAS Championship, spoke about what will his own Mulligan be.

What shot from his career will John Daly want to play again?

“Mulligan of my career probably be at DC. On 18, Bill Glasson got me. I pulled a 1-iron when I probably should have hit driver,” Daly said. He added that he hit 1-iron off the tee to the rough and only wants to hit the driver ‘right down the right side and hit a little L wedge in’.

Daly further explained that maybe if he made par, he would have a chance for a playoff. Maybe Glasson would still win, but Daly would have another chance.

The tournament Daly is referring to is the 1992 Kemper Open. Daly finished T2, while Bill Glasson won an event for the first time since 1989. The Kemper Open was last played in 2006 when it was called the Booz Allen Open.

PGA TOUR Champions’ video shared some clips from the final 18th hole. The 55-year-old was expected to make par but missed out on all the crucial moments.

Daly’s 2020-21 PGA TOUR Champions season

Daly went the entire 2020-21 season without a win. He last played at the Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS, finishing T31.

Daly’s 1992 season

Looking back at his PGA Tour career, Daly had a good 1992 season as he had five top-ten finishes, which included The International, Buick Southern Open, and the Nissan Los Angeles Open along with the Kemper Open. He won the B.C. Open that year by six strokes. It was Daly’s second PGA Tour title.

A year ago, he had won the PGA Championship. However, in 1992 he finished 82nd, scoring 20-over 304. The B.C. Open was Daly’s only victory. However, he did have various top-10 finishes.

As of now, Daly is at Prestonwood Country Club – Highlands Course for the SAS Championship. Following his attempt at the Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS, Daly is currently placed 52nd at the SAS Championship. He shot one-over 143 overall. That being said, his sole PGA Tour Champions win was the Insperity Invitational in 2017.
